Obituary: Carolyn Sullivan
Carolyn Sullivan
December 10, 1933 – April 22, 2026
Dunn-Carolyn Aycock Sullivan, 92, victoriously entered into the Church Triumphant on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Carolyn was born in Lenoir County to the late Turner Calvin Aycock and Eula Faulkner Aycock on December 10, 1933. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ten siblings; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Sullivan and Billy Wood.
Serving as a pastor’s wife for a fifty-year ministry, Carolyn stood alongside her husband Billy as they preached the gospel and cared for the members at seven churches throughout Eastern North Carolina. As the pastor’s wife, Carolyn faithfully attended to her duties with great pride in humble service.
An exceptional cook, anything that Carolyn had a hand in would be phenomenal. With a large family, it was nothing to her to feed the multitude from her kitchen, happy to gather them all in one place. Though the children and grandchildren are spread far from each other, Christmas was always a grand time where all or nearly all of them could gather to fellowship and celebrate the season.
With an artistic nature, Carolyn made beautiful crafts. From making pillows to scrapbooks, she had an eye for detail that made everything beautiful. Time spent in her yard was always a joy, as she cared for her many beautiful flowers.
Carolyn and Billy shared a beautiful marriage of nearly seventy-five years. Raising four children and loving on a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Carolyn’s love for her family was beyond compare. She was a wonderful, faithful, and loving wife, and extended those same attributes to the rest of her family.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at New Hope Church of God at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 with Rev. David Brooks, Rev. Charlie Asby, and Rev. Gerald Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery, La Grange.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of nearly seventy-five years, Rev. Billy Gray Sullivan Sr.; children, Reggie Sullivan and wife Barbara, Anthony Sullivan and wife Rhonda, Cindy Privette and husband Glenn, and Billy Sullivan Jr. and wife Sissy; grandchildren, Patrick Sullivan (Hannah), Adam Sullivan (Christy), Mark Sullivan, Rebecca Smith (Patrick), Sarah Sluder (Devin), Melissa Schwartz (Jason), Ashton Brantley (Thomas), Madison Fetzner (Billy), Matthew Sullivan (Megan), Ruby Holloman (Justin), Mazie Sullivan, Billy Gray Sullivan III (Mollie), and Keith Hairston; twenty great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
