Lester Lee Carter III, age 68, of Surf City, NC passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 in Seven Springs, NC. Lee was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Rose Herring Holbrook; stepfather, J. Van Holbrook; father, Lester Lee Carter Jr.; stepmother, Dr. Athelene Payne Carter; brother, James Lee Carter; brother-in-law, James Kevin Iddings; and his constant companion, Lady Bug the basset hound.
He is survived by his sister, Julie Carter Iddings; niece, Kristin Iddings (Jay); and nephew, Cody Iddings, all of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by his stepsister, Suzanne Mincarcine (Bob) of Macon, GA; and stepbrother, Robert Marlowe of Greensboro, NC; and his cousins Karla Griffin, Kelly Griffin, and Allie Price all of Seven Springs, NC.
Lee was born on June 13, 1957, in Greensboro NC. He graduated from Walter Hines Page High School and attended Wingate College. He split his time between his cottage in Surf City, NC, which he restored multiple times, visiting loved ones in Greensboro, and spending time with his cousins on their family farm in Seven Springs.
Lee will be missed by many; he made friends wherever he went. He lived life on his own terms and always found his own way to accomplish his goals. He ran a successful landscaping business and was a Jack-of-all-trades who could fix nearly anything. He loved animals and animals loved Lee.
In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, boating, tinkering, and tending to his garden. Lee was a hard worker who loved to stay busy and was always eager to learn a new skill or master a new hobby -especially if it meant doing something nice for those he loved.
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Seven Springs Church on the Hill, 503 Church St, Seven Springs, NC 28578.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Neighbors Bar, 507 Simpson St. Greensboro, NC 27401.
