Evelyn Dove Coleman: February Is Short
Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays. It falls smack dab in the middle of our shortest month of all twelve months. On February 14th, people across the land will be saying "I love you." It applies to married couples, dating singles, family members, and friends. Literally, love is in the air.
I try to think of things my special people like during the Valentine's holiday just as I do during the Christmas holiday. For example, I will have some Macadamia Nut cookies shipped to my adult sons and their friends. And I'll get some juicy oranges for my sister. Tiny boxes of chocolates may get a nod for some, but I try to discourage eating too much sugar.
Books about famous black people through history make great gifts during February because it is Black History Month. I have gifted so many copies of Harvey Beech Speaks, a native of Kinston who was the first black graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. It is now in the North Carolina Collection of the UNC Library. https://catalog.lib.unc.edu/?f[location_hierarchy_f][]=unc:uncwil&q=Evelyn+Dove+Coleman
Let's have a fun race to see how many people we can text, email, or tell that we love them during February. It's our shortest month of all.
