From Reentry to the Road: LCC Student Bryan Mercer Finds a New Path Forward

From Reentry to the Road: LCC Student Bryan Mercer Finds a New Path Forward

After being released from federal prison on March 13, 2026, Greene County resident Bryan Mercer immediately enrolled in the Reentry Program with a clear goal: building a better future. As he transitioned back into the community, Bryan expressed an interest in career training that would lead to stable employment. Working closely with his Reentry Coordinator, Tracey Price, and CDL Coordinator, Kristen Clayton, he enrolled in the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program at Lenoir Community College and committed himself to the process from day one.

Throughout the program, Bryan demonstrated determination, excellent attendance, and a strong work ethic. He successfully completed the course and earned his CDL on August 10, 2026, opening the door to new career opportunities. The following week, he secured employment driving a dump truck for a paving company, allowing him to immediately put his new skills to work. Bryan credits much of his success to his LCC instructors, Brian, Sam, and John, whose encouragement, expertise, and guidance helped him remain focused on achieving his goals.

Today, Bryan is gainfully employed and building a solid foundation for his future. His journey is a testament to what can be accomplished through hard work, determination, and access to the right resources and support. His success demonstrates that reentry can mark the beginning of a meaningful and rewarding new chapter.

Bryan shares this message with others who are currently justice-involved: "Don't let your past define your future." He also expressed gratitude to his “beautiful wife” for her unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in him throughout his journey. Above all, Bryan credits God for his success and is grateful for the opportunities that have helped him build a new future.
