Obituary: Eva Hewitt

Eva Hewitt, 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, 11 AM, at Queen Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

Eva, daughter of the late Arthur and Evelyn Perkins, was native of Robersonville and attended Chowan College. While in school, she met her future husband, Johnny Hewitt, and they wed in 1969. She later worked at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in the admitting office and was instrumental in the startup of Kinston Medical. Eva later retired from Northwest Elementary School after 25 years as a teacher’s assistant. She was a longtime member of Queen Street United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday school. Eva loved and cared for her family very much and will be truly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Johnny Hewitt; sons, John C. Hewitt and wife, Annette of LaGrange, Britt Hewitt and wife, Christina of Goldsboro; grandson, Damon Hewitt and wife, Maddie of Sherrills Ford; and family friend, Thelma Rouse.
