Obituary: Frances Barnes Allen

Frances Barnes Allen, 92, of Kinston passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Funeral services will be private.

Frances was born in Wilson County on June 30, 1930, to The Honorable Troy Thomas Barnes, Sr. and Berta Hinton Barnes. She was a lifelong member of Westminster United Methodist Church. Frances graduated from Barton College in Wilson with an Elementary Education degree and was an educator in the Lenoir County School system for many years. Frances loved being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she stayed busy babysitting her grandchildren throughout the years. She loved her family and her church.

She also loved her fur babies and raised many of them during her lifetime. Frances had many hobbies which included playing the piano, cross stitching, working in her yard, traveling with her kids, relaxing on the beach, floating in the pool, cooking and eating her homemade desserts, especially chocolate. She had a great sense of humor and always kidded that in college she was nicknamed, “the body.”

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Allen Wicker and husband, Ron, Betsy Allen Barmore and husband Richard, all of Kinston; her sister, Helen Barnes Langdon of Coats; four grandchildren, Samantha Waida Rouse and husband Aaron, Sara Waida, and Joshua Waida of Kinston, Robert Wade Braxton and wife, Meredith, and two great-grandchildren, Keaton Wade Braxton and Charlotte Grace Braxton all of Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wade Hampton Allen; an infant son, Wade Hampton Allen, Jr.; brothers, Troy Thomas Barnes, Jr. and Harold W. Barnes; and sister, Marie Barnes Harrell

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster United Methodist Church, 1001 Westminster Lane, Kinston, NC 28501.
