Kinston Police Department: Kinston Police Arrest Suspect for Attempted Vehicle Break-In

On September 29, 2025, at approximately 4:55 a.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad were dispatched to the 1300 block of W. Washington Avenue in reference to a report of a male subject pulling on a vehicle’s door handle.

While checking the area, officers observed a man running across Vernon Avenue toward Carolina Avenue. As additional units arrived, the suspect was seen running back across Vernon Avenue toward Walston Avenue. Officers pursued the individual on foot and successfully apprehended him in the area of Walston Avenue.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Jordan Leach. Video evidence obtained from the caller confirmed that Leach attempted to enter the victim’s vehicle by pulling on the door handle.

Leach was arrested and charged with:

• Attempting to Break and Enter a Motor Vehicle

• Resisting a Public Officer

He remains in custody at the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.
