Jerry Potter

October 29, 1954 – June 2, 2025

La Grange-Lemuel Jerry Potter Jr, 70, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025. Jerry was born in Lenoir County to the late Lemuel Jerry Potter Sr. and Gertie Mae Howard Potter on October 29, 1954. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dianne Tyndall.

An excellent musician with a strong love for classic rock, Jerry was lead guitarist and vocalist for the Peace River Band while in high school. He continued playing in bands throughout his life, switching over to bass guitar and playing with many bands including TAZZ and most recently, Second Helping. More than a hobby, music was a part of Jerry’s being.

Whether Jerry was in a tree stand at dawn, casting a line off the banks of the river, or riding his Harley down the open roads, Jerry was happiest outdoors. Passing along his love of hunting and fishing to his boys, he spent countless hours with them through their youth, teaching them how to hunt for deer or catch a bream or a bass. His love of the outdoors was evident in the time he gave it. Known to hunt before work or after work, hunting was a daily activity. And if it wasn’t hunting season, he’d be out on his boat, no matter the temperature.

Jerry had a deep appreciation for his collections and kept them with a sense of pride and purpose. His guns, guitars, retro bicycles and vehicles were all a reflection of his thoughtful, meticulous nature. Jerry’s greatest possessions, however, were his family. He lived fully, honestly, and happily with them by his side through it all.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside committal will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery, La Grange.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dolores “DL” Lane Potter; sons, Lemuel Jerry “Trey” Potter III and wife, Jennifer and Brandon Potter and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Tyler Potter, Luke Potter, and Stella Potter; brother-in-law, Keith Tyndall and his daughter, Stephanie Dawn Tyndall; brother-in-law, JT Lane and wife, Keisha and their children; special niece, Brittany Lane; and long-time friend, Lorree Lee.
