Obituary: Goldie Mae Noble
Goldie Mae Noble (née Ivey, June 18, 1933), formerly of Dover, NC died Friday, May 23, 2025, in Cary, NC.
A private committal service was held May 29, 2025, at Westview Cemetery, Kinston, NC. A memorial service will be held June 18, 2025 (visitation 11:30am – 12:00pm, service of remembrance at 12:00pm with a reception immediately following) at Edwards Funeral Home, 702 N. Queen St., Kinston, NC.
Born in Sampson County to James Andrew Ivey, and Lottie Mae Guinn Ivey who preceded her in death, Goldie lived in Cove City and Dover, NC prior to moving to Cary, NC in 2019. Goldie, widowed in 1962 at the age of 27, with four young children, struggled through tough times but summoned the strength and demonstrated the resilience necessary to keep her family together in the coming years. She learned to drive with the assistance of friends, managed to buy her first car, and obtained a full-time job with the U.S. Postal Service, eventually becoming a rural mail carrier for many years. In 1975, she married George Noble, who became a devoted and loving father to her children, and they built a life together for 36 years until his death in 2011.
Survivors include her children, Wanda R. Nicholson (Cary, NC), Marlene Riggs (Jacksonville, FL), Jesse B. Riggs, Jr. (Cove City, NC), four grandchildren, Lance Clayton (Pensacola, FL), Heather Clayton Legnard (Alplaus, NY), Adrienne Davis Abudo (Washington, NC), Brandon Davis (Jacksonville, FL), and niece Dawn Riggs Register (Cove City, NC). Goldie is also survived by nine great-grandchildren (Lorelei, Liam, Charles, James, Nicholas, Olivia, Victor, Colin, Chloe).
Goldie was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and husband, by her daughter Charlene Riggs Clayton (2014), brothers James, Paul, and Charles, and son-in-law, Edward Nicholson (2021).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Goldie’s memory to Transitions Life Care, Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC or to the charity of your choice.
