Disturbance at Family Dollar Leads to Arrest of Intoxicated Suspect
On December 2, 2025, at approximately 3:33 p.m., officers from Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad responded to the Family Dollar on Plaza Boulevard in reference to a reported disturbance involving a store clerk and 18-year-old Les-Lee Dauwen.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to speak with both parties and determined that Dauwen needed to leave the store. Dauwen, who was extremely intoxicated, refused to comply with officers’ directives. When officers attempted to escort him from the business, Dauwen slapped and pushed an officer. Officers were able to gain control of Dauwen and placed him under arrest.
While being secured in the patrol vehicle, Dauwen spat on officers. He was transported to the Lenoir County Jail; however, upon arrival, Due to Dauwen intoxication he was transported to UNC Lenoir for medical evaluation. He was transported for medical care, and once released, was booked into the Lenoir County Jail for the following charges:
• Assault on Law Enforcement Officer (2 Counts)
• Malicious conduct by prisoner
• Trespassing
• Resisting Arrest (3 Counts)
