KPD reports multiple arrests involving firearms and impaired driving

Two Charged After Report of Armed Individuals

On December 11, 2025, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad responded to the area of Jack Rountree following a report of a group of individuals gathering with firearms. While en route, officers received information identifying a vehicle involved in the incident that had already left the area.

KPD investigators determined that two individuals associated with the incident had walked away from the location shortly before officers arrived. Officers were provided with suspect descriptions and subsequently made contact with the individuals in the area. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Javaree Herring of Lenoir County and 18-year-old Que’vion Patton of Kinston.

During the encounter, Herring was found to be armed with a AR pistol, and Patton was found to be armed with a handgun. As a result of the investigation, both individuals were charged with Going Armed to the Terror of the People.

Lenoir County Man Arrested Following Traffic Stop

On December 12, 2025, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad observed a vehicle being driven erratically on U.S. Highway 70. Officers initiated a traffic stop, and prior to the vehicle coming to a stop, the driver was observed throwing alcoholic beverages from the vehicle.

Once the vehicle stopped, officers made contact with the driver, identified as 30-year-old Neptaly Lopez of Lenoir County. Lopez refused to comply with officers’ commands and actively resisted. He was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.

Lopez was charged with the following offenses:

- Driving While Impaired (DWI)

- Resisting a Public Officer

- Littering

- Driving While License Revoked

Lopez was transported to the Lenoir County Jail and placed under bond.

December 13, 2025 – B-Squad Recap

10:17 PM – Officers conducted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 70 involving 22-year-old Jimonte Simmons of LaGrange. During the stop, officers discovered more than 35 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a concealed handgun. Simmons was charged with the following:

- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

- Possession With Intent to Sell and Deliver (PWISD) Marijuana

- Manufacturing Marijuana

- Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substances

- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

- Multiple Motor Vehicle Violations

- Order for Arrest (unrelated incident)

10:56 PM – Officers conducted a traffic stop involving 37-year-old Marcus Cobb on the 800 block of North Queen Street. Based on Cobb’s driving behavior and other indicators, officers suspected impairment. While speaking with officers, Cobb reached into the center console and retrieved a concealed firearm. Officers immediately removed Cobb from the vehicle and secured the weapon. Following the investigation, Cobb was arrested and charged with:

- Driving While Impaired (DWI)

- Carrying a Concealed Gun

- Traffic Violations

Cobb was released from custody prior to a booking photo being taken.

11:14 PM – Officers responded to the area of Queen Street and Daniels Street in reference to a suspicious person walking in the roadway. Officers made contact with 54-year-old William Moore, who advised he was in possession of a concealed handgun and marijuana. Officers seized the items and cited Moore for:

- Carrying a Concealed Gun

- Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance
