Kinston police report multiple arrests in drug and property crimes

Arrest Made Following Firearm Disturbance

On September 2, 2025, approximately 1:45 AM, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad responded to a reported disturbance involving a firearm in the 1700 block of Sunset Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the residents and conducted an investigation. The investigation determined that 41-year-old William Taylor of Kinston was impaired and had discharged a firearm inside the residence during the disturbance.

Taylor was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was charged with the following offenses:

-Discharging a Firearm to Incite Fear

-Discharging a Firearm Within the City of Kinston

-Misdemeanor Child Abuse (2 counts)

The Kinston Police Department takes incidents involving firearms and the safety of children seriously and will continue to hold offenders accountable to protect the community.

Traffic Checking Station Leads to Drug Arrest

On September 1, 2025, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad conducted a traffic checking station on NC Highway 11. During the operation, a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Courtney Adkins of Jacksonville approached the checkpoint.

Officers observed signs of narcotics violations, which led to a search of the vehicle. The search resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine, Percocet pills, and marijuana.

Adkins was taken into custody and transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was charged with the following offenses:

-Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (2 counts)

-Felony Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance

-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The Kinston Police Department continues its proactive efforts to reduce the presence of illegal drugs in our community and ensure the safety of our roadways.

Arrest Made in Residential Breaking and Entering

On September 1, 2025, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad responded to a report of a residential breaking and entering on the 600 block of West Lenoir Avenue. The victim reported that hand tools, power tools, and an air compressor had been stolen from inside the residence.

Through investigative efforts, officers obtained security camera images of the suspect and identified him as 45-year-old Ronald Campbell of Kinston. Warrants were secured for Campbell on charges of Breaking and Entering and Larceny After the Fact.

A short time later, officers located Campbell on Vernon Avenue and took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, Campbell was found to be in possession of some of the reported stolen property. He was transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was held without bond.

The Kinston Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable and recovering stolen property for victims in our community.

Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Arrest and Seizure of Firearm and Narcotics

On September 1, 2025, officers with the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Hill Farm Road involving 20-year-old Marquez Johnson of Lenoir County.

During the stop, officers observed evidence of narcotics violations, which led to a search of the vehicle and Mr. Johnson. The search resulted in the recovery of more than 25 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a concealed handgun. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Johnson is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Mr. Johnson was arrested without incident and transported to the Lenoir County Jail, where he is being held under a secured bond on the following charges:

-Possession of a Firearm by Felon

-Carrying a Concealed Gun

-Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana (PWISD)

-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
