Hugo woman apprehended after attempted fleeing from traffic stop

KPD's A-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Hines Avenue & Vernon Avenue with Brittany Futrell (34 of Hugo NC) after she called 911. During the traffic stop officers placed a tire deflating device under the tires due to Futrell's actions that led officers to believe she was going to flee. Futrell did flee from the scene and the tire deflation device worked as intended. Officers pursued Futrell at low speeds until she stopped on W Vernon Avenue. Futrell was taken into custody and her 4 year old passenger was removed from the vehicle unharmed. KPD's Victim Specialist and DSS have started an investigation. Futrell was charged with the following:

-Misdemeanor Child Abuse

-Flee to Elude

-Obstruction of Justice

-Driving While Impaired

-3 unrelated Order For Arrest were also served
