Traffic stop leads to arrest and vehicle seizure
On August 3, 2025, at approximately 2:19 a.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad conducted a traffic stop on East Washington Avenue for a motor vehicle violation.
During the stop, officers discovered that the driver, 34-year-old Kia Taylor, had an active Order for Arrest on an unrelated matter. When officers attempted to address the order, Taylor fled the scene in her vehicle, prompting a low-speed pursuit.
The pursuit concluded when Taylor stopped at a residence in the 200 block of North Independence Street. She was taken into custody without further incident. Officers later determined that a juvenile was also present in the vehicle during the pursuit.
As a result, Taylor was transported to the Lenoir County Jail and charged with the following offenses:
-Fleeing to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
-Misdemeanor Child Abuse
-Resist, Obstruct, and Delay
-Multiple Traffic Violations
In accordance with North Carolina law, Taylor’s vehicle was seized under the state’s “Flee to Elude” provisions.
