Obituary: Thomas Bursell “Nick” Thompson, Jr.

Thomas Bursell “Nick” Thompson, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, July 28, 2023, at 11am in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.

Nick loved music and was a talented drummer and singer. He began playing the drums at an early age and was always keeping the beat whether that be with drumsticks or with his hands. He was a member of several bands over the years and enjoyed playing both Rock & Roll and Country music. Nick was a house painter by trade and was very talented at it. He painted freehand and never bought a roll of painter’s tape. Nick also enjoyed fishing. He loved to fish on the banks of the Neuse River and would not turn down the chance to fish from the pier at Atlantic Beach. Nick enjoyed watching NBA basketball and cheering on the Warriors with his sons.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, Nicole Thompson Wainright and husband Lee of Rocky Mount; sons, Robert Thompson and wife, Jessica of Louisburg, Thomas Thompson, III and wife Samantha of Kinston, Nicholas Cole Thompson of Kinston; stepsons, Shane Jones and wife Chelsea of La Grange, Steven Jones and wife Leslie of Gastonia; sister, Eloise Killette and husband Robie of La Grange. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his sisters, Jeri Lou Herring and Nancy Sue Thompson Hill.
