Obituary - Nancy Lee Criss Robey

Nancy Lee Criss Robey, 89, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Nancy was born in Harrison County, West Virginia to the late Carl Edward and Freda Edwards Criss on September 23, 1933. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Stanley “Art” Robey, Jr.; son, Jeffrey Alan Robey; and sisters, Shirley Elizabeth Criss and Joanne Criss Parker.

Nancy spent her career in service as a bank teller with numerous companies. Following her retirement and Art’s retirement as a truck driver, she and Art embarked on a lifelong dream. They purchased a farm in Pennsylvania on which they lived and raised cattle. In her words, the farm was an earthly experience of paradise. They appropriately named it “Paradise Found Farm” and enjoyed many years on their tranquil plot of land.

Wanting to see the many beautiful sights of God’s creation, the two sold their farm and purchased an RV in order to travel the country. For 11 years, they traveled through every state in the continental United States, as well as Alaska. With a great love of animals, their Collie, Cody, was always by their side. As age slowed their travel, they found a quiet and peaceful home in Kinston where Nancy and Art could live out their years with family close by.

Nancy’s love for animals continued through her days, as she spent time watching the birds in her yard and caring for her beloved dog, Roscoe.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Seth Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Nancy is survived by her son, Greg Robey and wife, Lynne; daughter, Deborah Robey; daughter-in-law, Linda Robey; grandchildren, Jenny, April, Matt, James, Jason, Kimberly, Jonathan, Zach, Franklin, Desiree, and Raymond; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Bill Parker.

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Nancy’s nieces, Cathy Miller and Shelby Matthewson.
