GEC's Brittany Hood recognized for her passion for teaching

The staff of Greene Early College has proudly selected Brittany Hood as their teacher of the year. A graduate of East Carolina University as an NC Teaching Fellow 2013, she has taught World and American History for eight years at GEC. Currently, she is excitedly preparing through intense professional development for the Economics and Personal Finance Course to be taught beginning in the fall.  She sees this course as one which focuses on relevant lifelong skills for the students.  Prior to her career at GEC, she taught in Pender County.

For one to be recognized by their peers as the Teacher of the Year, he or she must have a special committee for the teaching/learning process.  Mrs. Hood expressed that certain trait for teaching by stating: “I love interacting with them[students], learning from them[students], encouraging them[students], watching them [students] grow, and ultimately feeling pride in themselves. We play many different roles as teachers and it can make for a long day, but I genuinely love coming to school each morning.” She also believes that the high school experience is the final step before students encounter the real world. In addition to teaching the rigors of her subject matter, Mrs. Hood sees her role as making students aware of the many opportunities which await them after high school.

Mrs. Hood enjoys spending time with family and friends. She looks forward to warm weather so she can be outside with her son and daughter riding bikes, swimming or whatever else they seem to be into for the day. She also enjoys crafting with her daughter and home projects with her husband.

Mrs. Hood will compete with each of the recipients in the county for Teacher of the Year for Greene County.  Congratulations on this special recognition by your GEC staff!
