Minges Wellness Center at UNC Lenoir Health Care receives Perry Gift to support operations

Kinston, NC: Dan and Margaret Perry recently provided a $25,000 gift endowing the Dan E. and Margaret T. Perry Wellness Center Fund for use and operation in the Minges Wellness Center at UNC Lenoir Health Care.

Minges Wellness Center staff thanked long time members Dan and Margaret Perry for their gift to the Lenoir Hospital Foundation as they celebrated in front of Dan Perry’s favorite elliptical trainer in the wellness center.

“Our fitness facility is a real gem in our community”, said Robert A. Enders, Jr, CEO. “Members like Dan and Margaret who have been attending for years have reaped the benefits of our exercise programming. Their donation reflects their generosity and appreciation for what we do here and we are so grateful.”

The Minges Wellness Center is a hospital-based wellness center that boasts the medical fitness difference.  Because exercise options include strength training, balance, cardio and stress reduction, the center promotes exercise as strong medicine. Individuals in the community who participate receive physical and mental benefits from attendance. Exercise is known to be helpful for most medical conditions as well as prevention.

The Perrys have a special connection to the wellness center. Dan Perry shares that while in the gym on November 1st, 2017, he had an episode of cardiac emergency. Because he was on-site, emergency procedures were rapidly instituted including a quick trip to the cath lab for a pacemaker. Mr. Perry states, “I have never had any doubt that because my situation happened so urgently in the right place, with the right people and excellent skilled care, my life was saved.” He goes on to share, “The Lord was with all of us as the nurses and both, Drs. Kirollos and Pradeep, took excellent care of me.” He relates that the wellness center team and members are like family and he feels safer working out at the hospital.

While Dan and Margaret Perry have been regular supporters of the Lenoir Hospital Foundation, they emphasize that this gift underscores their deep appreciation for the care Dan received at the hospital on that day along with their belief that the wellness center is an important facility for community members to use to improve their health.

The Lenoir Hospital Foundation was established over thirty-five years ago to receive and steward private donations for the purpose of enhancing patient care through support to UNC Lenoir Health Care. For more information about the Foundation please go to lenoirfoundation.org.
