Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Tokyo House, LLC

1201 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Date: 2/02

Score: 92

Observations:

Some sushi temped above 41F.

Some foods in walk in stored on the floor.

Wet wiping cloths left lying around kitchen.

Dorm sized refrigerators and chest freezers are not commercial equipment.

Clear plastic covering on soup table is cracked and is in disrepair.

Chest freezer in back of kitchen is rusty on the bottom.

Sushi rice had not cooled down to 41F or below before being removed from temperature control.

Refrigeration handles, stand up reach in freezer bottom, shelf underneath rice cooker, and a few other surfaces need additional cleaning.

Hand sink beside microwave is draining slowly. Prep sink faucet continuously drips cold water.


Plaza Garibaldi

Observations:

No certified food protection manger present.

Raw tripe, raw beef, and raw meat are stored in fridge uncovered.

Few pans have not been cleaned thoroughly.

Rice, shredded cheese, and open package of ham are not date marked.

Mixer bowl has many crumbs. Utensil/lid bins have crumbs, crud inside.

Boxes and packages of single service items on the floor.

Wood base for equipment shall be nonabsorbent and smooth.

Commode soiled.

Dumpster has no plug.

Concrete floor needs to be repainted/sealed.


Pizza Plus

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present.

Insulation installed on underside of lift-top refrigerator lid and tape around pans of food on top of unit.

Handles of scoops for dry ingredients are in food product.

Can opener blade is soiled.

Top of mixer covered in duct tape.

Surfaces need to be cleaned.


Whiskey Pig Craft Butchery and Deli

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present.

Manger adjust hat, touches face, etc. without handwashing afterwards.

Employee cooks hamburger to approximately 145-150F under the assumption the customer would want it that way.

Brisket hot-holding on flat top waiting to be chopped ranges from 130-147F.

Chicken salad again on ledge in top of prep refrigerator is 50-53F.

Chicken salad and 2 packaged foods in bottom of prep fridge are marked with an expiration date of March 11th.


Mis Tesoros Taqueria

202 S Pine Street, Pink Hill

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present.

Employee washes hands but doesn't dry them prior to stirring large pot of carnitas.

Dispenser for hand-drying device in kitchen is out of paper towels.

No date marks on cooked food in freezer in zip-loc bags.

Water dripping from ceiling of walk-in fridge.

Food employee wears no hair restraint.

Water is cut off at can wash.

Some soil on commode in men's room.

Water from ceiling leak in walk in standing/running across floor.

Pots of food on the floor in the walk in.

Water continues to pool inside floor of prep refrigerator.


La Fuente Mexican Restaurant

107 N Central Avenue, Pink Hill

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present.

Employee scrubs cutting board then gets cilantro to cut without handwashing in between.

Employee starts to wash hands in prep sink, but then moves to hand wash sink.

No hand-drying device in mens restroom.

Ice machine baffle has black crud.

Frijoles reheated to 141-158F.

Raw hamburger in reach-in at 60F has been left out. Raw shell eggs in reach-in are 42F.

Spray bottle of bleach is not labeled.

One baby roach seen.

Tortilla shells stored in grocery store bags.

Employee filled sanitizer bucket in hand sink.

Ready to eat smoked sausage stored below raw shrimp.

Container of breading in cook area not labeled.
