The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Golden Corral

4468 U.S. 70 West, Kinston

Score: 92

Inspection date: 12/4

Observations:

Employee operating dish machine is using dip station to dip hands between touching soiled utensils and clean utensils

Several plates, food pans, meat slicer and utensils were visibly dirty - repeat violation

Pico, shredded cheese and sour cream on buffet were 48-49F

Ceiling above prep sink is leaking (dripping into sink)

Dishes were stacked wet

Walk-in doors in disrepair

Drainboards in disrepair

Many areas need additional cleaning - repeat violation

Baseboards, cracked floor tiles and holes in wall need to be repaired


Olympian

601 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Score: 96.5

Inspection date: 12/4

Observations:

Knives, peeler and can opener need additional cleaning

Employee was cutting vegetables without wearing hat or hairnet

Take-out trays were stored exposed

Gasket on small reach-in cooler is tearing

Vents above three-compartment sink need additional cleaning

Baseboard beside three-compartment  sink and some ceiling tiles are in disrepair


Smith's Cafe

2424 U.S. 258 North, Kinston

Score: 96

Inspection date: 12/5

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present - repeat violation

Dishes being washed in sink beside oven were not being sanitized

Flies in kitchen  - need better pest control

Wet wiping cloths laying on drain boards, tables and in wash basin - shall be held in sanitizer


The Boiler Room

108-B North Street, Kinston

Score: 95.5

Inspection date: 12/5

Observations:

Raw chicken and catfish in first prep unit was 53F; oysters and shrimp in same unit were 46-48F; all potentially hazardous food shall be at or below 45F; internal temperature of unit at beginning of inspection was 48F and down to 43 at end of inspection; temp may have been out due to lunch rush - corrected during inspection/repeat violation

Employees prepping food without beard guards - repeat violation

Lower hinge on first prep unit is loose;

Grease trap lid is open

Trash on ground around dumpster
