The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

The Market

222 N. Herritage Street, Kinston

Score: 98.5

Inspection date: 10/8

Observations:

Chicken salad (already cupped) was 57-59F. Use cooling methods such as shallow pans, freezer and ice baths to bring temperature down from 135F to 70F in two hours and from 70F to 45F within four hours;

Couple of flies in kitchen;

Employee prepping food not wearing hairnet;

Single-service trays stored exposed;

Light on right side of hood is out;


East Coast Wings and Grill

3021 North Herritage Street, Kinston

Score: 90

Inspection date: 10/11

Observations: 

Employee moved fries with bare hands;

Chicken stored above shrimp in prep cooler;

Dish machine was out of sanitizer;

Dishes, plates, spoon and lids were visibly dirty - repeat violation;

Lunch meat, pico, cheese, salsa and peppers in prep unit and drawers were above 45F - should be at or below 45F - repeat violation;

Many flies and a couple of roaches in kitchen;

Wet wiping cloths laying on tables and shelves - shall be stored in sanitizer between uses;

Broken drawers and drawers that will not fully close need to be repaired;

Top of dish machine, vents, hot hold lights, shelving, fryers, grill area need additional (cleaning);

Floors, walls and ceilings need additional cleaning; mold and mildew behind dish machine needs to be cleaned - repeat violation;

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present - repeat violation;

Gasket on prep unit door and reach-in cooler door in disrepair - needs to be replaced;


Taco Bell

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present;

Hand dryer in men's room not working;

Flies in kitchen;

Dishes stacked wet - let dishes air dry before stacking - repeat violation;

Gaskets on reach-in freezer are in disrepair;

Top of quesadilla clam shell, bottom of warmers, bottom of reach-ins and top of dry food storage bins need additional cleaning - repeat violation;


Herritage Elite

Observations:

Employees went from washing dishes to cutting produce without washing hands;

Employee peeling/cutting produce with bare hands;

Vent above prep table, shelving and utensil drawer needs additional cleaning;

Observations:

Scoop, knife and strainer were visibly dirty;

Light bulb out in hood - needs to be replaced to maintain 50 foot-candles;

Chili meat in walk-in cooked at 10:30 was 90F - discarded;

Hot dogs, bacon, cheese and tomatoes were above 45F - must be at or below 45F;

Many flies in kitchen;

Wet/dirty wiping cloths laying on counter;

Dishes were stacked wet - let them air dry before stacking;

No test strips (sanitizer) could be provided;

Tables, shelves, grill area, freezer drawers and top of heating elements need additional cleaning;

Score: 94.5

Inspection date: 10/24

Observations:

Raw and ready-to-eat food stored n close proximity and pans touching with lids not closed;

Bowls, oyster knives and oyster plates were visibly dirty;

Fish in walk-in (cooler) was 51-62F - ensure temperature does not go above 45F;

Fly strips hung above clean dishes;

Broken containers shall be taken out of service - rusty walk-in (cooler) door needs to be repaired/replaced;

Same water hose used to clean floor is used to clean slaw chopper;

Shelving and inside (of) some refrigeration needs additional cleaning;

Cracked/missing floor tiles and holes in walls need to be repaired/replaced;
