Robert (Bob) Lee Norville, 94, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, July 25, 2024. A graveside service will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park on Sunday, July 28th at 3pm. The family is welcoming friends at the home of Robbie and Debbie Norville.

Badcock Home Furniture & more in Kinston to close amid company-wide downsizing
Badcock Home Furniture & More announced the closure of its Kinston store as part of a broader plan to shutter 35 locations nationwide. This move comes after Conn’s HomePlus, which acquired Badcock in December 2023, decided to close 71 of its own showrooms. The Kinston store is among the seven Badcock locations in North Carolina affected by the downsizing.

Luke Benjamin Thacker, 17, left his earthly home for his heavenly one on Sunday morning, July 21, 2024. Peach House Vernon Ave to close July 25th, new location at Lenoir Crossing opens soon
The popular local eatery Peach House is set to expand with a second location at Lenoir Crossing, near the hospital in Kinston. The current location at 412 W. Vernon Avenue will close tomorrow, July 25, 2024, as the business prepares to transition to the new site.
Complaint leads to arrest of five on numerous drug charges
On Tuesday, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office received a narcotics complaint from the public. Sheriff Jackie Rogers led an investigation — along with the Street Crimes and Rapid Response (SCARR) team and deputies from B Shift — at 3719 N.C. 58 South in Kinston. The investigation ended in the arrest of five individuals with numerous charges.
67 year old Kinston man arrested on felony possession
A 67-year-old Kinston man was arrested today on felony possession of stolen property in a case that started two weeks ago.

A narcotics complaint on Monday sent Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers, deputies from B Shift and the county’s Street Crimes and Rapid Response (SCARR) team to Deep Run — and it resulted in the arrests of four individuals on a myriad of charges.

Greene County Breaks ground on new High School
On Friday, July 19, 2024, Greene County Schools broke ground on the construction of the new Greene Central High School. Greene County along with Greene County Schools supported by Rep. Chris Humphrey and current US Rep but former State Senator Don Davis secured funding from the Department of Public Instruction for the 60 million dollar construction of a brand new high school. The new school will replace the current school that was built in 1960.
Bank employee arrested for Assault by Strangulation
On June 20, 2024, KPD officers responded to an assault report at Wells Fargo located at 1903 W Vernon Avenue. Upon arrival, they made contact with the victim, who stated that while she was waiting in line, a bank employee named Lucretia McMurtry (55, of Kinston) began yelling at her. The verbal altercation escalated when McMurtry grabbed the victim by the neck, shook her head uncontrollably, and began strangling her.
