Officer-Involved Shooting Leads to Arrest of Goldsboro Man on Multiple Charges

On May 23, 2024, Kinston Police attempted to arrest Demetrius Williams, 36, of Goldsboro, resulting in an officer-involved shooting and a subsequent vehicle pursuit. Williams, who was found with a firearm, marijuana, and cocaine in his vehicle, was charged with multiple felonies and placed in Lenoir County Jail without bond. The NC SBI is assisting with the investigation into the shooting while the department conducts its own internal review.

Teen Killed in Memorial Day Celebration Shooting at Bill Fay Park

On May 26, 2024, Kinston Police responded to a shooting at Bill Fay Park during a Memorial Day celebration, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Dzyer Gooding. The Kinston Police Department is actively investigating the incident and seeking community assistance. Mayor Don D. Hardy extended his deepest condolences to the Gooding family, expressing the community's shared grief and commitment to addressing gun violence.

Maxson Mitchell Outlaw, child of Mitchell and Kayla Outlaw and child of God, exchanged the embraces of his earthly parents for the embrace of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. A celebration of Maxson’s life will be held at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. A private committal will be held.
