Officers on C-Squad conducted a traffic stop with Sincere Teach (25 of Kinston). During the traffic stop officers discovered Teach was wanted for several Orders for Arrest. Teach was placed under arrest and officers conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.

On May 23, 2024, Kinston Police attempted to arrest Demetrius Williams, 36, of Goldsboro, resulting in an officer-involved shooting and a subsequent vehicle pursuit. Williams, who was found with a firearm, marijuana, and cocaine in his vehicle, was charged with multiple felonies and placed in Lenoir County Jail without bond. The NC SBI is assisting with the investigation into the shooting while the department conducts its own internal review.
On May 26, 2024, Kinston Police responded to a shooting at Bill Fay Park during a Memorial Day celebration, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Dzyer Gooding. The Kinston Police Department is actively investigating the incident and seeking community assistance. Mayor Don D. Hardy extended his deepest condolences to the Gooding family, expressing the community's shared grief and commitment to addressing gun violence.
