“We are very excited for our Governor’s School attendees. This is one the largest groups who have been selected to attend from Lenoir County Public Schools and they represent a wide variety of academic and arts disciplines,” said Amy Jones, who supervises LCPS’s nomination process as director of high school education. Representing LCPS at this summer’s session, along with their field of study and the Governor’s School location, are: Eagan Ballard, Kayla Britt, Lillian Daughety, Madeline Gilmore, Hayden Hall, and Mackenzie Hood.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.
Juvenile students from Kinston High School will have charges pressed against them for making a threatening call to North Lenoir High School. Sheriff Jackie Rogers and the LCSO would like to thank the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the quick identification of the source of the threat.
On Friday, the LCSO served an arrest warrant on James Wiggins for two counts of communicating threats. The incident stemmed from a verbal altercation with a teacher at North Lenoir; during the altercation, Wiggins threatened to kill the teacher.

After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Stephanie Ezzell passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024 at her home in Raleigh North Carolina, surrounded by her family. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, March 25 at Highland Baptist Church, 8524 Crowder Rd, Raleigh, NC 27603. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 before the service at the church. The burial will take place at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.

At Teacher’s Memorial Elementary School in Kinston, NC, Mrs. Skinner taught us all the seasonal songs. Robert J. Jeffcott, a resident of Seagrass Village in Gulf Shores, and previous longtime resident of Kinston, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the age of 94. Funeral arrangements will be private. To honor Bob’s memory, he requested his friends and family to offer instrumental lessons to young students. Music enriched his life, and he passed on this passion to his grandchildren and would like this tradition to continue with others.
On January 31, 2024, Officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to The Red Carpet Inn (208 E New Bern Road, Kinston) in reference to a welfare check. Officers were advised that children living at the address were being neglected and possibly sexually abused.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced today the arrest of Sherrod Suggs, 58, of 710 Joyner Drive, Kinston, NC. Suggs was charged with one count of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.
At a family dinner not long ago, Adamary Gaona and her parents sat at the table with her two older siblings and their spouses – those four relatively recent college graduates wearing shirts that represented their alma mater.
A few minutes before 11 a.m. on Sunday, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Gilbert School Road residence for a report of a gunshot wound. When they arrived at the residence, they found Victoria Haynes, 30, with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
Scott Alston has been promoted to the position of Kinston-Lenoir County Recreation Director after 20 years of service with the City of Kinston. During his tenure, Alston has held various roles, including Recreation Superintendent and Interim Parks & Rec Director. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration and is an alumnus of North Lenoir High School, class of 1998. Alston recently achieved his 100th career win as the tennis coach at North Lenoir High School.
