Ronald Wade Barrow took the hand of his Savior and entered the gates of heaven on January 9th, 2024. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, January 13th, at Free Gospel PFWB Church with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Military Honors.

Kinston Police apprehend Wyche following citizen tip

Final Case Update: On Sunday, January 7, 2024, members of the Kinston Police Department received a tip from a concerned citizen in reference to the whereabouts of Matthew Wyche. A short time later, officers located Wyche near the 300 block of N. Queen St. Wyche was arrested without incident and placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.

Obituary: Kinney Wallace Byrd

Kinney Wallace Byrd, the son of the late Arthur Gordon Byrd and Ruth Tilghman Byrd, was born on September 30, 1936 in Dover, North Carolina and passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024 after several years of failing health. A funeral service to celebrate Kinney’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Pink Hill Funeral Home, 1056 NC-11, Pink Hill. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lee Memorial Park, 1040 Seth Turner Road, Deep Run, NC.

Alice Shapiro: Why collect art?

On a quiet day near the end of 2023, I walked around downtown Kinston with no particular destination or purpose in mind. Art 105 was open, and I entered. Upon reaching Bruce D. Ziegler's space, the artist greeted me cheerily, and we began a conversation about artmaking. As we walked around the art-filled space, Ziegler showed me several pieces he had made over the years, and I began to see a pattern, or a style, emerge from the many displayed on the walls and floor.
