The Kinston Police Department has issued a stern advisory to residents regarding the operation of unregistered all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road motorcycles on city streets. The department has observed a concerning increase in the use of these vehicles in inappropriate settings, which not only endangers the operators but also poses a significant threat to bystanders and other motorists.
On Thursday, August 10, 2023, at approximately 8:13 pm, officers from the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of West Road in Kinston in reference to a shooting. The victim, Marquetta Norman, 35-year-old female from Greensboro, was shot in the neck by an unknown suspect.

On August 10, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department, the United States Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office were able to apprehend Dionate Whitson, 23, of Asheville N.C. during a traffic stop on Hwy 70 West in Kinston, N.C.

Jean J. Jones, age 90, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at her home. Graveside Services will be held 3 PM Sunday, August 13th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Alex Ellis officiating.
