The Lenoir County Public School Nutrition Department is soliciting competitive sealed proposals from qualified service providers to furnish pizza products, training, and equipment for our three high schools. The term of the contract will be from July 1, 2023 and terminate July 1, 2024, with both an extension option and a Renewal Option. Any and all bids or proposals may be rejected at the discretion of the Lenoir County Public Schools Nutrition Department. Bid opening will be June 6, 2023, at 3:00PM. Sealed bids will not be accepted after 2PM.

The City of Kinston has been informed of the sale of the Down East Wood Ducks baseball operations to Diamond Baseball Holdings. We are excited about this new relationship and wish DBH much success in Kinston.
UPDATE: The Spartanburg Post and Courier is reporting that the Down East Wood Ducks will move to South Carolina as early as the 2025 season.
On May 21, 2023, at 08:30 am, officers from C-Squad responded to an active breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and the victim was was able to provide a detailed description of the subject.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. A kitten found itself trapped beneath a grade covering the Arts Council’s basement windows Monday Morning. The Neuse News team tried to coax the kitten out but had no success. Assistance arrived from Kinston Police Department's Animal Control Officer Danny Daughtey and Sergeant Sam McLawhorn, who, alongside another Good Samaritan, managed to lift the hefty grate and free the kitten. The officers took the kitten to the Lenoir County SPCA, for potential adoption.

The La Grange Public Library, a member of Neuse Regional Libraries, has been selected as one of 240 libraries to participate in Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an American Library Association (ALA) initiative that provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities.
Spirit AeroSystems recently donated $8,400 to Lenoir/Greene United Way. The donation is part of their annual investment in local community organizations through their Good Neighbor Fund. The funds given to Lenoir/Greene United Way will be distributed to their 14 area nonprofit partner organizations.
On June 15, the smART Gallery will host an “Artist Talk” at 6 p.m. The featured artist is Alice Shapiro, who will discuss her digital art form and worldwide exhibitions. The smART Gallery is located at 210 N. Queen Street in Kinston.
