The town of Pink Hill held a Mixed Beverage Referendum during the November 2022 election, which passed with 65 votes for and 42 against. During Tuesday’s Pink Hill Commissioners meeting, Mayor Yvonne Deatherage announced the entire Mixed Beverage Referendum vote was invalid because Pink Hill had not met the requirements to hold the vote.
In an email letter obtained by Neuse News to Mayor Deatherage from North Carolina ABC Commission Assistant General Counsel Renee C. Metz, she stated, “it appears the Mixed Beverages election held in November 2022 was not authorized by statute.”
Lenoir County Public Schools is requesting professional design consultant services to provide full service for the design and construction administration of constructing an additional entrance, driveway, and parking lot at Pink Hill Elementary School. After countless years and a long history of disturbances, search warrants, drug violations and countless calls to the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, the Meadowbrooke community has worked together with the LCSO to ensure its children and families are safer.
Earlier this month, the Greene County Middle School (GCMS) Jr. BETA Club attended the North Carolina State Junior BETA Convention. This was the fifth time the club has taken part at the convention, with the past two years virtual.
The Juntos program at Greene Central High School continues to grow and now looks to help make an impact on the national level. The program works to unite community partners to provide Hispanic students and their parents with knowledge, skills, and resources to make college a family goal.
On Tuesday, Congressman Greg Murphy made a visit to the Lenoir Community Early College to speak to the students about his role in the US House. He talked about the popular topics that are being discussed in Washington like the war in Ukraine and financial decisions being made domestically. Dr. Murphy had a Q & A session with the students and members of the local Lenoir County government officials.
