House of representative Dr. Greg Murphy Visits Lenoir County Early College

On Tuesday, Congressman Greg Murphy made a visit to the Lenoir Community Early College to speak to the students about his role in the US House. He talked about the popular topics that are being discussed in Washington like the war in Ukraine and financial decisions being made domestically. Dr. Murphy had a Q & A session with the students and members of the local Lenoir County government officials.

Dr. Greg Murphy is the only active practicing physician in the US house. He was born and raised in Raleigh and he moved to Eastern NC in the 1990s. He has been representing North Carolina District 3 in the US House since 2019. Dr. Murphy has been spending time in Eastern North Carolina recently and this is important to him.

Dr. Murphy says, “It’s important for students to meet their representative, the person who is supposed to represent them in Washington, learn about what they do, what they believe and how they [representative] can best support them [member of the congressional district].”

The US House of Representatives are the part of Congress that spends the majority of their time talking with congressional members in their district to influence their decisions in Washington. The purpose of the visit for Dr. Murphy to the Early College was to meet with students and discuss his role in the House of Representatives.

The students of Lenoir County Early college were able to ask Dr. Murphy questions about NC politics as part of their education program at LCC. The students are the future of the country’s leadership and were there to learn from Dr. Murphy and his role in the US House.

Dr Murphy says, “As we grow up and grow older, we learn something new every day. [The idea of talking to the youth is a way] to instill students a love of learning that no matter what point of the world you are in and what point of history in life you are at, you understand you are learning every day.”

The visit to the Lenoir Community Early College was focused on Dr. Murphy’s role in North Carolina and the US House of Representatives. Students asked questions that pertained to the Chinese Sky Balloon, recent bills that were introduced in the House, and gas prices.
