Greene Central High School student has earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These National Recognition Programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them meaningfully connect to colleges and stand out during the admissions process.
The Student Resource Officer (SRO) at Northside High School in Jacksonville reportedly took 20 seconds to respond to events that resulted in one student dead, another injured, and one in custody. “Our heartfelt condolences are with the Onslow County School System as they mourn the loss of a student and to all parents that have experienced an act of violence in their respective communities,” said Assistant Superintendent Nicholas Harvey II. “All Lenoir County middle and high schools will have a dedicated fully staffed SRO. Each elementary school will have a shared SRO and walk throughs from NC Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies,” said Commissioner J. Mac Daughety.

Suzanne Howard “Sue” Noble, 95, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Greendale Forest in Snow Hill. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Pink Hill Funeral Home, with visitation following the service. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.

About 2 weeks ago, my neighbor’s cat was mauled by 2 dogs we believe are owned by people who live down the street. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers welcomed the students for their first day back. This school year three full-time certified Officers are assigned to the schools. Governor Roy Cooper announced the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) will award over $17 million in grants to fund 39 local parks and recreation projects across the state. The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority (Authority) approved the grants at its meeting held on Aug. 26 at the Nature Research Center in Raleigh.
In the last ten years, North Carolina legislature's have passed successive bills that increased penalties and closed loopholes on school stop-arm violations. The 2009, House Bill 440 (Nicholas Adkins School Bus Safety Act in memory of the 16 year old student killed when a driver did not stop for a stopped school bus), added one critical provision to an existing law - allowing the use of automated camera and video recording systems to detect and prosecute violators.
