The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office has charged Allen Ray Hardison III with two crimes related to bomb threats that were called into two local schools. Hardison was arrested by Greenville Police Department on January 28, 2022 after a chase in Greenville.

As Sheriff Lemmie Smith will still be serving Greene County until February 28, 2022, an interim sheriff cannot be chosen until the March 7, 2022 Greene County Commissioners meeting.
