In an impressive feat, a team with ties from Kinston has made headlines at the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament by securing a remarkable prize. The boat "Release," captained by Rom Whitaker with angler Kirk Pugh, won the Fabulous Fisherman’s Division, earning a substantial $1,729,750.
Snow HIll - On Friday, April 25, 2024, Greene County hosted the annual Special Olympics at the Athletic Complex of Greene Central High School. This year Greene County hosted 74 Athletes and 22 Young Athletes. The event has been held for over 30 years and each year the success of the athletes are celebrated by a multitude of people.

Snow Hill - The Greene County Parks and Recreation Department has announced the dates for Fall Sports sign-ups. The City of Kinston has been informed of the sale of the Down East Wood Ducks baseball operations to Diamond Baseball Holdings. We are excited about this new relationship and wish DBH much success in Kinston.
UPDATE: The Spartanburg Post and Courier is reporting that the Down East Wood Ducks will move to South Carolina as early as the 2025 season.
There is still no official update from the Down East Wood Ducks or their owners, Texas Rangers, on the potential sale of the team. As we all wait, here are some documents from the City of Kinston related to the Down East Wood Ducks, including stadium improvements and the lease extension discussions through 2031 and potentially 2033. The documents include the minutes and agenda discussing the matter, and the signed contract extension.
A flurry of social media posts in response to a Texas Rangers press release has local people questioning the security of Wood Ducks baseball in Kinston. Established in 2017, and currently in a 12 year contact with the City of Kinston to play at Grainger Stadium, the Wood Ducks are a focal point of tourism and entertainment.
