UPDATE: Victim in Sunday night's shooting has died
Sunday night’s shooting incident started with a minor traffic accident in which the parties involved — Shy’mecca Epps and the 17-year-old juvenile and the victim (Amie Heath) and her boyfriend — agreed to settle between themselves and exchange money.
Greene Early College hosts successful blood drive event
Greene Early College hosted its first blood drive on Friday, March 1 from 11am-3pm. The event was hosted by GEC HOSA. Alisha Williams, Jensen Lockman, and Coty Starkey from The Blood Connection performed the drive. A total of 20 students and staff participated.

LCC Business students participate in SGA canned food drive
Lenoir Community College students in Mrs. Kristy Grady's and Ms. Penni Bland's accounting and business courses donated canned goods for the campuswide Student Government Association Canned Food Drive to support Mary's Kitchen.
Sutton and Aiken top vote getters in Lenoir County Commissioner At-Large primary
Linda Rouse Sutton and Sammy C. Aiken were the top vote-getters in the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners At-Large - Democrat Primary race. Sutton and Aiken will face Keith King (Rep) in November for the two At-Large seats.
AP called the governor’s races for both parties: Lt. Governor Mark Robinson will face Attorney General Josh Stein in November.

The missing Person reported is Jakyra Bryant. She is 16 years old with black hair and brown eyes. Her height is 5'2” her her weight is 105. She was last seen: 03/02/2024 at 500 BLK E Washington Ave wearing black and white jacket with blue jeans and pink and white shoes. Possible location to be is on Dixon Street and/or George Avenue. Double Trouble: Repeat DWI arrest for Kinston woman
Officers on A-Squad conducted a traffic stop with Aaliah Anderson (27, Kinston). During the traffic stop officers suspected Anderson was impaired. After an investigation was complete, Anderson was arrested for Driving While Impaired.

Firefighter triumphs over adversity, returns to service after a year
Today marks 1 year since my accident. This has truly been the hardest year of my life. I haven’t posted about my accident before today, but thought it was appropriate to share a message and a picture. Yesterday I was released by my doctor from medical restrictions and last night, after 364 days, I was able to put on my gear and return to the fire department.
