Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers addressed concerns regarding transparency and safety measures in the wake of a recent inmate death at the Lenoir County Detention Center.
On Sunday, January 21, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of 1200 E. Bright St. Kinston, N.C. Upon arrival, officers met with individuals in the area and were able to locate the initial crime scene.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office has investigated two incidents during the first three weeks of 2024 where children have gained access to loaded firearms. Both incidents resulted in injury.
The inmate that passed away in the Lenoir County Jail on Saturday is Stephanie Osowski, 40, of Millsboro, Delaware.

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. The Lenoir County Board of Elections has announced an immediate change in the voting location for the Kinston 4 voting precinct. The previous location at Tanglewood Church of God is being replaced by the Kinston Church of Christ, located at 1901 Sunset Ave, Kinston, NC 28504. Voters will cast their ballots in the fellowship hall of the new venue.
Veteran’s United has made it possible for every single student at Jones Senior High School (JSHS) to take home two books for free. There are 522 students that attend JSHS. The value of this donation of 1,044 books could range from $6,000-$20,000.
