On Sunday, January 21, 2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of 1200 E. Bright St. Kinston, N.C. Upon arrival, officers met with individuals in the area and were able to locate the initial crime scene. The initial investigation revealed that three black males were suspects in the crime. However, they were not located. Officers collected 12 spent shell casings and discovered that a nearby church had been struck by gunfire along with other property in the area.
