Jones County Recreations “Back to School Bash” on Saturday, August 5th

This event provides Jones County Students with backpacks, snacks, health information, and free health screenings.  In addition, we have invited and encouraged area businesses, churches, non-profits, and partner organizations to come participate and promote their services as well.  We are requiring all participating groups to provide $25 worth of School Supplies. Juvenile and Family Treatment Court Earns All Rise23 Leadership Award

North Carolina’s 8th Judicial District Family Accountability and Recovery Court received the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, now All Rise, Juvenile and Family Treatment Court Leadership Award at its 23rd Annual Conference in Houston, Texas on June 26, 2023. This national award shines a spotlight of commendation on a team which has demonstrated exemplary service to the family treatment court field.

From Cold to Closed: Update on Kinston's 2021 homicide

During the month of July 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department’s Investigations Division and the departments Violent Criminal Action Team were able to obtain vital information in the case.  This information led detectives to obtain warrants for Ernest McCotter (31) of Hampton, VA and Deshawn Maye (30) of Kinston for the murder of Jerome Gadson on March 14th, 2021.  

Kay Harrell Wins 2023 Lighthouse Award

Kay Harrell was honored with the 2023 Lighthouse Award by Lenoir/Greene United Way on Wednesday, July 19 at the nonprofit organization’s nautical-themed gala, “Set Sail With Us.”  Presenting sponsor, Dr. Rusty Hunt representing Lenoir Community College shared Harrell’s impressive bio with a full house of attendees.

Kinston Police apprehend robbery suspects

On July 20th, 2023, at approximately 9:00am officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred on the 2100 block of West Rd. in Kinston N.C.
