As part of their social studies work, Kristina Jones’ fifth graders will learn about the 50 states by using their iPads to create tourism commercials. Working closer to home, Betsy Mercer’s students will use digital tools to monitor the weather in their own backyard. The entire fourth grade at La Grange Elementary will have their nose in new novels, to be read as a class and discussed.
To be named to the Dean’s list, students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 semester hours, have achieved a grade point average from 3.25 through 3.99, are not enrolled in any class numbered below 100, and have no grade lower than a “C”.
Joseph Michael Wilson, also known as “Mike Mike,” 37, of Kinston North Carolina, was sentenced to 108 months in prison for two counts of distribution of a quantity of cocaine. Wilson pled guilty to the charges on November 15, 2022.
The intersection of U.S. 70 and Lowe's Home Improvement, Chick-fil-A, and Pinelawn Memorial Park is getting a makeover. The N.C. Department of Transportation is closing the median and building a new "reduced conflict intersection." Just be aware construction is scheduled to start today (Monday) and should be wrapped up by May.

In North Carolina and nationally, emergency allotments for COVID-19 in the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) program will end in March 2023. Households that have been receiving extra FNS benefits (called "emergency allotments") each month since March 2020 or after will see a reduction in benefits because of a federal change that ends emergency allotments for all states.
Snow Hill - Greene County’s Kids on Stage (KOS) theatre group recently participated in the 2023 Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) in Atlanta this past weekend. The group presented scenes from Disney’s Moana Jr. Kids on Stage won a Freddie G Excellence in Acting award and Alexander Suggs received a Freddie G Outstanding Individual Performance award.
When 21-year-old Montreai Woodard of Walstonburg came to Lenoir Community College (LCC), he knew exactly what he wanted to do, he just needed financial help to do it. He was working at a local car dealership at the time.

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.
