Back-to-school prayer service to be held Sunday
The Kinston-Lenoir County Association of Congregation, in partnership with Lenoir Community College, will host a community Back-to-School Prayer Service Sunday, August 28, 2022, at 4 PM in the Briley Auditorium on the Kinston campus of Lenoir Community College.

Six Jones County 4-H members attend 4-H Garden Camp at Filling Station
On July 26th and 28th, six Jones County 4-H’ers attended 4-H Garden Camp at the Filling Station in Pollocksville, NC. The 4-H agent and Family and Consumer Sciences Agent partnered to offer this program. Youth spent the first half of the day outside in the garden learning about pollinators and their importance in our gardens and food supply, native plants that attract pollinators to our gardens, herbs and their uses in the kitchen and the plant and water cycles.
North Lenoir Fire & Rescue receives donation from DripDrop to provide dehydration relief to firefighters
North Lenoir Fire & Rescue recently received a donation of oral rehydration solution (ORS) from DripDrop, a leading electrolyte powder company, to help provide critical dehydration relief to its responders during extreme summer heat, wildfire season, and other strenuous response situations. The donation was made in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), the leading association representing the volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue services.

Lenoir County SPCA begins construction on animal shelter
The Lenoir County SPCA is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, August 25, 2022, for a new state of-the-art, 8,000 square foot shelter located at 3200 Highway 258 North. The new shelter is scheduled to open in late 2023. This new facility allows for enhanced animal care as the pet population continues to grow.

Greene County Schools welcomes returning staff for the 2022-23 school year
For the first time in over a decade, Greene County Schools begins a school year with brand new leadership at the top. In June, long time superintendent Patrick Miller and director of Human Resources Raymond Smith both retired leaving Greene county with a combined 90 years of service to the children of the county.

UScellular has announced a $30,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain (BGCCP) in Lenoir County to provide educational opportunities and experiences to local youth. The company has invested in BGCCP to support K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and academic enrichment programs.

Governor Roy Cooper directed $14.5 million in new federal funding to further support postsecondary students in completing their degree or credential and to support beginning teachers as they start a new academic year.
North Carolina's Southeast approves 23 product development grant awards
North Carolina’s Southeast has approved 23 applications from its Product Development Fund. The funds, which will boost the development and enhancement of industrial sites and shell buildings across the Southeast’s 18 counties, stem from a $5 million appropriation last year from the North Carolina General Assembly.

Boat Lift Warehouse’s three-year revenue growth was 165 percent.
