Lenoir Community College received a bomb threat referencing their library. Law enforcement is on site and the building has ben cleared for safety.
On Wednesday, June 29th, 2022, the Kinston Police Department Narcotics/Vice Unit apprehended Henry Hicks, 27, of Kinston during a traffic stop. Hicks had a federal warrant for various drug crimes. During the traffic stop, detectives located crack cocaine and 3 illegally possessed handguns. The two additional occupants of the vehicle were identified as Naulage Hines, 22, of Kinston and Isalic Williams, 23, of Kinston.

Twenty Jones Senior FFA members recently participated in the 93rd North Carolina State FFA Convention, held June 21-23, 2022 at the Raleigh Convention Center. After three years without an in-person convention, Jones Senior FFA members were recognized for their participation and success in several Career Development Events (CDEs) and other accomplishments.
The event will be held at William Frost Park, 708 Foy Ave. It will feature Joe Brown & The Band, Free Food, Games, and Fireworks to end the night.
We are pleased to announce an improvement to our fire suppression rating from NCDOI/OSFM. Not only were we able to go from a 6/9E to a 5/9E (lower numbers are better!), but we were also able to utilize our new tanker truck to be graded by the water haul method. This will help those who reside more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant. This is a big deal for the community!
Alexandra Avery of Kinston, NC, (28503) was named to the College of Charleston Spring 2022 Dean's List. Avery is majoring in Studio Art.
Dr. Keith M. Seaforth passed away on June 21, 2022, at 75 years of age. Seaforth opened his dentistry office in Kinston in 1981. He was married to his wife Barbara for 51 years and together they had four children, all of whom graduated from Howard University, Seaforth’s alma mater.
“Dr. Seaforth will certainly be remembered for his tireless dedication to the students and staff of our system,” said Nicholas Harvey II, Lenoir County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent.
Per his obituary, his funeral will be held at St. Augustus A.M.E. Zion Church on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 12 PM with Rev. Reginald Bradshaw officiating. Interment shall follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Kinston, NC resident, Aliza Matthews, has been named to the Dean's List at James Madison University for the spring 2022 semester. Students who earn dean's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of between 3.5 and 3.899. Matthews is majoring in dance.
