Persistence puts South Lenoir students in line for college aid, earns state award

Reina Kinnaly knows she can be a nagger, but she is unapologetic. Her dogged pursuit of South Lenoir High School seniors this past school year and her insistence they complete the paperwork critical to securing college scholarships, grants and loans have earned the school an NC First in FAFSA Innovation Award from myFutureNC, one of six presented in the state for 2022.

Queen Street gets a makeover from out of town volunteers

On Monday, June 20, 2022, downtown business owner Brandon Potter made a post on Facebook concerning the state of the flower beds on Queen Street. Instead of just making a complaint post, he also offered to be a part of the solution, and he did just that. Kinston Lenoir County Parks and Recreation director Corey Povar also took notice and worked with members of JustServe.org.

Third time's a charm - Mayor and Council get the raise they "deserve"

The Kinston City Council passed the proposed Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget Tuesday evening. The budget included increased salaries for the mayor and the city council and funding to increase the hourly rate of part-time city employees. This was the third year in a row the council attempted to give themselves increased salaries. Council member Robbie Swinson voted against the increased mayor and council salaries both times it came for a vote Tuesday.

LCC Aprenticeships spotlighted on My Carolina TV

Lenoir Community College's Apprenticeship program was in the spotlight on the My Carolina show in Raleigh. Dawn Kantz, Lenoir Community College's Associate Dean of Workforce Development and Amy Jones, Lenoir County Public Schools' Director of High School Education and Career Technical Education Programs, recently taped a segment on CBS 17's My Carolina TV show in Raleigh.
