Queen Street gets a makeover from out of town volunteers

On Monday, June 20, 2022, downtown business owner Brandon Potter made a post on Facebook concerning the state of the flower beds on Queen Street. Instead of just making a complaint post, he also offered to be a part of the solution, and he did just that.

Kinston Lenoir County Parks and Recreation director Corey Povar also took notice and worked with members of JustServe.org.

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, JustServe.org answered by sending over 100 volunteers to help clean up Queen Street’s flower beds and putting down new mulch. Potter provided water and snacks to ensure the volunteers knew they were appreciated.

“HUMBLED and GRATEFUL this morning for the kind folks that came and helped their neighbors,” said Potter in another Facebook post. “I hope they know how much we appreciate what they did. It was no small feat. I would also like to thank Corey Povar for taking the initiative and spearheading this effort.”

Per their site, JustServe.org is a website where the volunteer needs of organizations may be posted and volunteers may search for places to serve in the community, providing opportunities to help those in need and enhance the quality of life in the community.

Downtown Kinston Revitalization director Leon Steele said, "Kinston is very blessed to have so many people from our neighbor City of Goldsboro come and tidy up our downtown.”
