According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, heavy rain expected this week. A train of low pressure systems will impact the region, bringing numerous rounds of heavy rain and storms beginning tonight through Saturday. The latest forecast calls for ***up to 6-10 inches of rain*** through the weekend, with locally heavier amounts possible. Flash flooding will be a concern all week. Keep your umbrellas handy this week and make sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings!
A Kinston man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including charges for arson and breaking and entering. At 7:10 this morning, Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Speedway convenience store at 1660 Hwy 11/55 in Kinston for a disturbance call.
After taking a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth, the Down East Wood Ducks and Fayetteville Woodpeckers entered a rain delay and were eventually suspended in the bottom of the fourth, Sunday afternoon. The Woodpeckers return to Grainger Stadium for a six-game series starting, Tuesday, August 24th.
After plating 15 runs last night, the Down East Wood Ducks struggled in an 8-4 loss to Fayetteville on Saturday night. Down East committed three errors and struggled to string hits together with runners in scoring position, as they had two opportunities with the bases loaded but left the runners stranded to end the innings.
In a game that saw 25 runs, 16 hits, and nine errors, the Down East Wood Ducks came away with a 15-10 win over the Fayetteville Woodpeckers Friday night. The Wood Ducks didn’t record a hit until the third inning, but had a 5-3 lead strictly on walks, wild pitches, and defensive errors.
North Carolina received more than $4.9 million federal funds for small rural hospitals in the state to provide COVID-19 testing and mitigation, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced today. The program will provide increased COVID-19 testing to rural populations ensuring an equitable distribution across the state.

Many of the books shelved in the history section of the media center at Kinston High School are historical in their own right – that is, they are old, of a bygone era.
The building that formerly housed the Kinstonian Family Buffet on Vernon Avenue was torn down. The Kinstonian closed their doors in March of 2019 after hurricanes including Matthew and Florence had damaged the building.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. announced that state government would begin verifying vaccination status of its workers. Employees not vaccinated are required to wear a mask and be tested at least once a week. Today’s announcement comes as North Carolina’s latest upswing in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations is driven by unvaccinated North Carolinians.
On July 23, Eastpointe, and its community partners completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training for 15 officers from the Kinston Police Department and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office. The training was held at Lenoir Community College.
On Wednesday, July 28th, 2021, at approximately 9:30 am, search crews located Mr. Gray, who was deceased, approximately 5 miles from the bridge. Although there is no foul play suspected detectives with the Kinston Police Department are still looking into the events that took place that night.
Thanks to a late error, the Down East Wood Ducks defeated the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 7-5 on Tuesday night. The Wood Ducks surrendered the lead but managed to claw back with a three-run bottom of the eighth for their second come from behind win this season.
On July 29, 2021, at 5:30 pm there will be a "Turning on the Lights" sculpture dedication going on at the Kinston Arts Center. The sculptures are collectively called "Rising Currents".
The fun LCPS promised students at its Summer Enrichment Academy arrived at Moss Hill Elementary School by land and by air courtesy of FFA students from South Lenoir High School.
