Dorien Sutton, a senior at Greene Early College, has been selected by the Walstonburg Fire Department as 2020 Fireman of the Year.
Lenoir County added to Hurricane Isaias disaster declaration
FEMA Public Assistance funding is now available to local governments, state agencies and certain private nonprofits in Lenoir County if they were affected by Hurricane Isaias between July 31 and Aug. 4, 2020.
Five COVID-19 related deaths in the last week for Lenoir County
The Lenoir County Health Department is reporting five additional deaths in the county of residents who had tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number to 91.
Update on COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments for Greene County
Snow Hill, NC – This morning, January 20, 2021, the Greene County Department of Public Health had a COVID-19 vaccine appointment waitlist form posted on the Greene County website.
St. Mary’s Bell Tolls for COVID Remembrance
At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kinston tolled the bell for Americans who have died from COVID-19. Everette Haddad, Boy Scout 2nd class and member of Troop 41, pulled the thick rope of St. Mary’s bell 40 times, once for each 10,000 COVID-19 deaths.
South Lenoir High School awarded AgCarolina Farm Credit Grant
AgCarolina Farm Credit announced $33,850 in grants that have been extended to fourteen organizations throughout its corporate-giving program. One of the places to receive the grant funds is South Lenoir High School which will provide equipment for their Ag Mechanics program. “We are so grateful to AgCarolina Farm Credit for all that they offer our community and future communities for Eastern NC in a vast array of ways,” said Principal Elizabeth Pierce. “The opportunities this grant provides for Mr. Singleton to help expand his ag program in the C(career) T(technical) E(education) department is exceptional. Most importantly, the investment is placed in our students.”

Hope Preparatory School teaches with Dr. King's Dream speech
The plan for the Hope Preparatory School students to memorize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s, ‘I Have a Dream’ speech began around Martin Luther King Day last year. The school wanted their students to learn about the worlds and life of Dr. King.
The inauguration of the 46th President of the United States of America
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States as the oldest man to take the oath of office. His running mate, Kamala Harris will become the first female Vice President of the United States, as well as the first female of color to assume the role.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's influence still impacts today
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday of January each year. Local faith leaders in the community shared the influence Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. continues to have on their lives.

UNC Lenoir begins vaccinating patients 75+
UNC Physician’s Network began providing COVID-19 vaccinations to patients age 75 and older (Phase 1b, Group 1) on Monday at Covid Vaccine Clinic at 204 Airport Road, Kinston, NC.
