South Lenoir High School awarded AgCarolina Farm Credit Grant

AgCarolina Farm Credit announced $33,850 in grants that have been extended to fourteen organizations throughout its corporate-giving program. One of the places to receive the grant funds is South Lenoir High School which will provide equipment for their Ag Mechanics program. 

“We are so grateful to AgCarolina Farm Credit for all that they offer our community and future communities for Eastern NC in a vast array of ways,” said Principal Elizabeth Pierce. “The opportunities this grant provides for Mr. Singleton to help expand his ag program in the C(career) T(technical) E(education) department is exceptional. Most importantly, the investment is placed in our students.”

AgCarolina Farm Credit is a farmer-owned financial cooperative that provides farmers with credit in central and eastern North Carolina. 

“The grant funds that were provided by Ag Carolina Farm Credit will be used to equip students with those skills allowing them to move into specific career pathways that they can utilize in their everyday life and in careers that include mechanics, manufacturing and fabrication,” said teacher Joshua Singleton. 

Grants up to $5,000 per organization were awarded in one of the four focus areas of Education, Environment, Technology, or Quality of Rural Life. 

“LCPS and our teachers have won in excess of $3.1 million in competitive grant awards this school year. That success is a testament to the effort our educators put into providing students with those extra opportunities that make instruction in this school district so interesting and exciting,” said LCPS Public Information Officer Patrick Holmes. 

The administration gave praise to the teachers that are able to secure grants for the school district. 

“LCPS is blessed to have teachers like Mr. Singleton that advocate for our students, and he works hard to overcome obstacles, more prevalent now than ever before, to give all of our students the skills necessary to enter the next stage of their academic career, the job force, or whatever path they choose,” said Pierce.

The grant will be put to good use and allow students to have more opportunities for career development. 

“We can not thank Ag Carolina enough for supporting the Agriculture Education program at South Lenoir,” said Singleton.
