NWS continues Severe Weather Outlook

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City continues to anticipate a strong cold front, which will affect the region later today (Christmas Eve) into Christmas Day. The main impacts continue to be severe weather in the form of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes, minor to moderate coastal flooding, and strong gradient winds with the potential for power outages.

"A Queen Street Christmas" has been a favorite event for many in Lenoir County and the surrounding area for 18 years. To prevent the loss of another event this season, members of Queen Street United Methodist Church worked tirelessly to create a virtual event to share for the Christmas season. While the experience of this presentation in person cannot be replaced, it is their hope that this concert will bring joy to the hearts of those who "attend". Governor Cooper announces $30 million to expand internet access in rural areas

Nearly $30 million will go to fund 18 broadband infrastructure projects with a goal of connecting 15,965 households and 703 businesses in rural North Carolina to high-speed internet, Governor Cooper announced Thursday. The grants are part of the 2020 Special Supplementary Round of the Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology (GREAT) Grant program and will be distributed through the N.C. Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) Broadband Infrastructure Office (BIO).
