Representative Chris Humphrey along with 14 of their colleagues in the North Carolina House of Representatives, including House Speaker Tim Moore, joined its nonpartisan, national alliance of more than 200 elected officials, civic groups, military leaders and cities. The Coalition’s members work together to advance proactive solutions to the challenges posed by more frequent flooding, stronger storms, and rising seas.

City confirms time and a half for two new holidays, $53,604 daily payroll

During Monday night’s City Council meeting, motions were unanimously passed proclaiming the November General Election Day and Juneteenth as city holidays, starting with 2020. City manager Tony Sears confirmed the two additional city holidays would be paid and later confirmed to Neuse News that “the salaries for a single day across all budgets is $53,604.17.”

Statements during the meeting attested there would be no “extra cost” to the taxpayers for the two new annual holidays. Citizens took to social media following the meeting suggesting that emergency services employees should get paid time and a half for holiday pay, which potentially would be an extra cost for the city in direct contrast to the vote’s portrayal.

Superintendent Brent Williams named 2020-2021 Southeast Region Superintendent of the Year

At Monday’s Lenoir County School Board meeting, it was announced that Superintendent Brent Williams was awarded the 2020/2021 Southeast Region Superintendent of the Year and is a nominee for State Superintendent of the Year. Today, members of the school district, school board members, county and city officials rode in their cars with signs, balloons, and even silly string as they passed Williams who thanked each participant as they drove past.
