Kyonna Kelly couldn’t help but feel sad when, a few weeks back, time ran out on her four years as a starter for the Kinston High School women’s basketball team. Finding herself in the running for three academic scholarships has helped her spirits rebound.
Environmental STEM at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library
Join us at the Kinston-Lenoir Public Library for a two-month-long series of environmental STEM-themed programs on Tuesdays at 4:30 pm in March and April, including a special event on April 9th @ 4:30 pm as part of the 2024 North Carolina Science Festival.
Kindergarten, pre-school registration to begin March 18 for LCPS schools
Early registration for entering pre-school and kindergarten students in Lenoir County for the 2024-2025 school year will be held March 18-22 at all LCPS elementary schools from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Charter School Review Board to decide fate of Children's Village Academy
Children's Village Academy faces a pivotal moment as the Charter School Review Board prepares to vote on March 11, 2024, on the renewal of its charter amidst allegations of financial mismanagement. The state Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has recommended against the renewal following a series of investigations that unveiled alleged inappropriate spending and conflicts of interest involving high-ranking officials connected to the school.

If there was a thread running through Wednesday’s LCPS Middle School Battle of the Books and the LCPS High School Battle of the Books – in addition to the dozens of students who like to read and who can remember what they read – that thread was Woodington Middle School.
Greene Early College hosts successful blood drive event
Greene Early College hosted its first blood drive on Friday, March 1 from 11am-3pm. The event was hosted by GEC HOSA. Alisha Williams, Jensen Lockman, and Coty Starkey from The Blood Connection performed the drive. A total of 20 students and staff participated.
LCC Business students participate in SGA canned food drive
Lenoir Community College students in Mrs. Kristy Grady's and Ms. Penni Bland's accounting and business courses donated canned goods for the campuswide Student Government Association Canned Food Drive to support Mary's Kitchen.
Ryan Meadows Named LCC Athletic Director
Ryan Meadows of Greenville has been named the Athletic Director for Lenoir Community College, replacing Shelly Barnes who recently accepted a position at Forsyth Technical Community College. He will assume the position officially on April 2.

Greene County Schools boost breakfast access with new grant
Governor Roy Cooper announced $1.3 million in grants to 42 public school districts and public charter schools across North Carolina to expand access to healthy school breakfast for more than 51,000 students. The NC Innovative School Breakfast Grants were funded through federal funds directed by the Governor in October 2023.
LCC Baseball stars receive Whitfield-Minor Scholarship for Excellence
Baseball Hall of Famer George Whitfield created an annual scholarship through the Lenoir Community College Foundation honoring the memory of Gilmer Minor, III who played college football and baseball and who continued to support athletics throughout his life.

The district announced Tuesday they are the recipients of a $12 million supplemental grant, bringing them one step closer to realizing their vision for the state-of-the-art educational facility.
