A Day of Giving Back
August 17 was set aside as a “Day of Giving Back” to the community for Greene Early College students. Since the inception of GEC in 2006, volunteerism and a willingness to help out have always been integral parts of the school culture. The staff recognizes it as a valued life skill as it encourages students to engage in the community and contribute to its betterment.
Expungement clinic to be hosted by The Presence Church of La Grange
The Presence Church of La Grange is hosting an expungement clinic aimed at assisting individuals in clearing their criminal records. This initiative seeks to provide people with the chance to remove certain entries from their records, thereby enhancing their prospects for securing improved job opportunities.
Greene Central Marching Rams march in 2023-24
Snow Hill - Greene Central High School’s Marching Rams have kicked off their 2023-24 season. Since July 24th the members of the band have been meeting at Greene Central for Band Camp from 9-5. They have been working hard on their halftime show, marching basics, and new music.
1st Choice Care Apprenticeship Announcement
Lenoir Community College is excited to announce the first Nurse Aide Apprenticeship that started in July with employees from 1st Choice Care, LLC, a family-owned home healthcare agency in Kinston. 1st Choice Care Director Starsheema Chapman and LCC Associate Dean of Workforce Development Dawn Kantz signed the apprenticeship agreement recently during the Nurse Aide I class at LCC.
North Carolina School Bus Stop Law – What To Do
All traffic must stop for a stopped bus, unless it is on a road of four or more lanes with a median or center turning lane. In those instances, oncoming traffic does not have to stop because children will not be crossing the road to reach the bus. Traffic following a bus must always stop with the bus. If in doubt, always stop for a school bus.
LCC Holds Lamm Building Dedication
Lenoir Community College recently held the dedication of the newly named Lamm Building. The building is named in recognition of William "Bill" Lamm and Melda B. Lamm, longtime supporters of the College. Their lives were dedicated to their faith, family, friends, and community. In light of that, the two were very generous with their work and donations to multiple institutions across the surrounding area.

Andrew Acheampong named to dean's list at University of Maryland Global Campus
Andrew Acheampong of Kinston was named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.
Community Colleges partner for Train the East Initiative
Through a partnership between Lenoir, James Sprunt, Sampson, and Wayne Community Colleges, the colleges were recently awarded $1 million from the Anonymous Trust in support of a new, two-year Latino Initiative called “Train the East.” Each community college will receive $250,000 to be used over the two years.

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library has several exciting upcoming events that will take place in the next few months. August will begin with our latest semi-annual Book Sale, which will run from Wednesday, August 9 until Saturday, August 12 in the Schechter Auditorium of the Library. The sale will begin at 9:00 a.m. each day and run until 5:00 p.m.

GCS AIG Students experience AeroSpace Camp
Greene County Schools held an Aviation and Aerospace camp for Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted rising 4th and 5th-grade students from July 10th to 12th. The camp, organized in partnership with community members and organizations, provided an array of enriching experiences.
Greene County schools CTE Program hosts Summer Camps
Greene County Schools Career and Technical Education program sponsored multiple summer camps for students in Middle and High School. All of the camps were led by different CTE Teachers and featured everything from Culinary to Robotics to Agriculture to Medical Sciences.
