Isabelle Vernon had harbored a desire to be a school teacher since she was in the eighth grade, but when the South Lenoir High School senior got the call – literally got the call – she hung up by accident.
Two Parrott Academy sophomores have been accepted into the NC Governor’s School in dance after completing applications and submitting audition videos.
Three groups from Kinston High went and competed in the Regional NC Science and Engineering Fair. All three groups placed 1st in their division.
With a unanimous vote, The Greene County Board of Education selected Dr. Frank Creech as the next superintendent at their meeting this evening. An experienced education leader, Dr. Creech will succeed outgoing superintendent, Dr. Patrick Miller, and will assume responsibilities on July 1, 2022.

Twenty-six LCPS students and their 20 projects are moving on the 2022 Virtual NC Science and Engineering Fair after top finishes in regional competition.
Greene Central’s Sidney Ramsey has been accepted into the Governor's School. Ramsey will go to Governor's School East, which is located at Meredith College. Governor's School is a 4-week summer residential program to prepare students for college. This program is for gifted and talented rising seniors.
South Lenoir High School Junior, Sydney McLawhorn has been accepted into Governor School West. She will be focusing on mathematics at Winston- Salem State University.
Janae Brown has been accepted into the Governor’s School and will be focusing on the area of theatre.
Three North Lenoir students are headed to the Governor’s School. North Lenoir High School shared through their Facebook page that Courtney Humphrey, Austin Williams, and Dakotah Lane were accepted into the Governor’s School.
Governor Roy Cooper held a roundtable discussion about the Longleaf Commitment community college grant program with education leaders and grant recipients at Central Carolina Community College.
Lenoir Community College will hold a Disaster Preparedness Event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 29 in and near the Health Sciences Building on campus.
The team from Pink Hill Elementary School finished no lower than third in 14 of the 19 events in the 2022 LCPS Elementary Science Olympiad on Friday to win its third title in the six years of the district-wide tournament.
On March 8-10 students from Greene Central High School and Greene County Middle School participated in the State Competition for the North Carolina HOSA organization.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.
