On Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department located the suspect and suspect vehicle involved in the shooting of Marquetta Norman on August 10th, 2023. A traffic stop was subsequently conducted, and detectives were able to apprehend Marquez Johnson, 18, of Kinston for his involvement in the crime. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a Glock 9mm handgun.
KPD is attempting to identify the two men in the photo. It was reported they broke into a vehicle, stole a bank card, and used the bank card to make purchases. The Kinston Police Department has issued a stern advisory to residents regarding the operation of unregistered all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road motorcycles on city streets. The department has observed a concerning increase in the use of these vehicles in inappropriate settings, which not only endangers the operators but also poses a significant threat to bystanders and other motorists.
On Thursday, August 10, 2023, at approximately 8:13 pm, officers from the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of West Road in Kinston in reference to a shooting. The victim, Marquetta Norman, 35-year-old female from Greensboro, was shot in the neck by an unknown suspect.
On August 10, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department, the United States Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office were able to apprehend Dionate Whitson, 23, of Asheville N.C. during a traffic stop on Hwy 70 West in Kinston, N.C.

On August 5th, 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department were conducting patrols in reference to suspicious activity along the 500 block of Larkspur Rd. During that time, they encountered the individual pictured below, who fled from officers and tossed a stolen firearm in the process
An officer on D-Squad observed a Dodge Charger crash into a Chevrolet SUV at the intersection of Herritage Street and Airport Road. As the officer approached the vehicle crash, the Dodge Charger fled the scene. The officer was able to catch up to the Dodge Charger and identify the driver as Ian Adams (36). Adams was taken into custody for Felony Hit & Run and Driving While Impaired.
KPD is attempting to identify the vehicle in the photo below. It was involved in a felonious hit and run (vehicle vs pedestrian). The pedestrian was was walking on E Shine Street when vehicle struck him/her. The pedestrian was transported to UNC Lenoir for non-life threatening injuries.
Snow Hill - According to the Greene County Sheriffs Department Facebook page, the Greene County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit arrested 28 year old John Randolph Sauls of Snow Hill for narcotics and weapons violations after leaving the scene of an accident on August 3, 2023.
The Kinston Police Department posted the following on their Facebook page: Shaquann Patrice Truzy of Goldsboro is wanted by the Kinston Police Department for fail return hired motor vehicle and larceny of motor vehicle.

Officers on C-Squad encountered Marlake Velez on E Lenoir Avenue. During the encounter, Velez fled from officers. Officers were able apprehend Velez shortly after a foot pursuit behind a residence on E Lenoir Avenue.
KPD's Violent Crime Action Team concluded an investigation related to criminal activity that involved the distribution of illegal narcotics. A search warrant was for 2207 Ivey Road was obtained and served. During the search, officers located methamphetamine, prescription pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.
